Common Questions

Do I have to pay anything out of pocket?
No. For eligible CDBS services, we bulk-bill directly to Medicare. There are zero gap fees or out-of-pocket expenses up to your child's 2-year benefit cap.
How do I know if my child is eligible for the CDBS?
Children aged 2 to 17 are eligible if they are eligible for Medicare and their family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment, Double Orphan Pension, or another qualifying Australian Government benefit for at least 1 day of the calendar year.
What is the current benefit cap under CDBS?
As of 2026, the CDBS provides an indexed benefit cap of up to $1,095 per child over two consecutive calendar years for basic preventive and restorative dental care.
What specific dental services are covered under the CDBS?
CDBS covers routine check-ups, professional dental cleanings, dental X-rays, fissure sealants, composite fillings, root canals, and tooth extractions.
Does CDBS cover braces, orthodontics, or custom sports mouthguards?
No. The CDBS excludes orthodontic treatment, clear aligners, cosmetic dentistry, custom sports mouthguards, and hospital-based general anesthesia services.
Does unused CDBS benefit roll over into future calendar years?
If your child remains eligible, any unused funds from Year 1 roll over into Year 2 of the 2-year period. However, at the end of the second calendar year, any remaining balance expires and cannot be transferred.
What happens if my child's treatment exceeds the 2-year cap?
We check your child's remaining Medicare CDBS balance prior to treatment. If a treatment exceeds the remaining balance, our team informs you of the difference before proceeding so there are no unexpected costs.
How can I check my child's remaining CDBS balance?
You can check your child's balance through your Express Plus Medicare mobile app, via your myGov account linked to Medicare, or simply call our reception desk and we will check Medicare on your behalf.
Do I need to bring anything to my child's appointment?
Please bring your valid Medicare card (with your child's name listed) and your photo ID. We handle all direct bulk-billing processing electronically at reception.
Is CDBS available for emergency dental care for children?
Yes! Emergency appointments for sudden toothaches, dental trauma, broken teeth, or acute infections are eligible for bulk-billed treatment under CDBS.
