Common Questions

Do I need to pay upfront for DVA services?
No. If you hold a DVA Gold Card, or a White Card with approved dental conditions, we bill the Department of Veterans' Affairs directly for all eligible services. There are zero out-of-pocket costs for approved treatments.
Are new dentures covered by DVA?
Yes. DVA fully covers clinically necessary new full dentures, partial dentures (acrylic or chrome cobalt), relines, and emergency repairs subject to DVA Schedule guidelines and replacement frequency rules.
What is the difference between Gold and White DVA cards for dental?
Gold Card holders receive full coverage for all clinically necessary dental and denture treatments. White Card holders receive coverage specifically for accepted service-related dental conditions or specific injuries accepted by DVA.
Do I need a doctor referral for DVA dental care?
No GP referral is required for standard dental or denture care if you are a DVA Gold Card holder. You can book directly with our practice. White Card holders simply need to confirm their accepted conditions with DVA or our reception team.
How often does DVA fund new dentures?
DVA generally covers new full or partial dentures every 6 years, or earlier if clinically justified due to natural oral tissue changes, severe wear, or medical conditions. Relines are covered every 1-2 years.
Does DVA cover same-day emergency denture repairs and relines?
Yes! Emergency repairs for broken denture bases, fractured teeth, or loose clasps, as well as laboratory relines, are fully covered under DVA. Thanks to our on-site dental laboratory, we perform most DVA repairs in 1 to 2 hours.
What is the 2026–2027 DVA biennial monetary limit for high-cost dental items?
As of July 2026, DVA maintains a biennial limit of $5,980.30 (covering 2026–2027) for Schedule C high-cost items like crowns, bridges, and specialized prosthetics. Routine denture services, exams, and cleanings do not count toward this cap.
Does DVA cover dental implants or implant-retained dentures?
DVA considers dental implant prosthetics under specific clinical criteria where traditional dentures cannot function. Prior financial authorization from DVA is required, which our clinical team facilitates for eligible veterans.
Can DVA assist with transport to my dental appointment?
Yes. Eligible DVA cardholders may access the DVA Repatriation Transport Scheme or claim travel reimbursement for travel to and from our Oak Park clinic for approved dental treatment.
How do I transfer my DVA dental care to Oak Park Dental & Denture Clinic?
Transferring is seamless. Simply call our clinic with your DVA file number and card details. We contact DVA, retrieve your prior dental records if needed, and handle all direct billing paperwork.
