Victorian General Dental Scheme (VGDS)
The VGDS provides eligible concession cardholders with access to essential general dental care at private dental clinics when public dental clinic waitlists are lengthy.

What VEDS Covers:
- Urgent Pain Relief: Rapid intervention for acute, throbbing toothaches.
- Dental Infections & Swelling: Treatment for dental abscesses and gum swelling.

How to Redeem Your Voucher at Oak Park Dental
Private clinics cannot generate vouchers directly. Follow these four simple steps:
Contact Community Clinic
Call your local community dental service (e.g., Merri Health, DPV Health, or The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne) for clinical triage.
Receive Your Voucher
If eligible and waitlists require private redirection, the clinic will issue a VGDS or VEDS voucher and allow you to select a participating dentist.

Bring Voucher & Card
Bring your physical voucher and your Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card to your appointment for immediate treatment.

While Oak Park Dental treats general and emergency dental needs under VGDS and VEDS, vouchers for new dentures, denture relines, and denture additions under the Victorian Denture Scheme (VDS) are handled directly by our on-site laboratory partner practice, Oak Park Denture Clinic.

What is the Victorian General Dental Scheme (VGDS)?
The Victorian General Dental Scheme (VGDS) is an initiative funded by the Victorian Department of Health and administered by Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV). It enables eligible concession cardholders who have been triaged by public community dental clinics to receive routine dental care—including examinations, cleans, fillings, and extractions—from participating private dentists like Oak Park Dental.
What is the Victorian Emergency Dental Scheme (VEDS)?
The Victorian Emergency Dental Scheme (VEDS) is designed for patients experiencing acute dental emergencies, severe toothache, infections, swelling, or trauma. When public community clinics experience high emergency demand, they issue VEDS vouchers so eligible patients can receive urgent pain relief and emergency treatment promptly from accredited private dental practices.
How do I obtain a VGDS or VEDS voucher?
Private dental clinics cannot issue these vouchers directly. You must first contact your local community health dental clinic (such as Merri Health in Moreland/Hume or DPV Health) or Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV). Following clinical assessment or triage, if public waitlists are extended or urgent capacity is needed, they will issue you a voucher and you can nominate Oak Park Dental as your treating clinic.
Are there any out-of-pocket costs with a VGDS or VEDS voucher?
Most public dental vouchers require a small statutory co-payment per visit or per course of care as set by the Victorian Department of Health (unless you meet full exemption criteria such as specific Commonwealth support, refugee status, or youth in state care). Oak Park Dental will clearly confirm your statutory co-payment before treatment commences with zero unexpected fees.
What is the difference between VGDS, VEDS, and VDS?
VGDS covers general restorative dentistry (routine exams, cleaning, fillings, extractions). VEDS covers acute dental emergency treatments and pain relief. VDS (Victorian Denture Scheme) covers full and partial denture fabrication and relines. At 88 Winifred Street, Oak Park Dental provides your VGDS and VEDS dental treatments, while our on-site sister clinic, Oak Park Denture Clinic, provides custom dentures under VDS.
How long are Victorian dental vouchers valid?
Emergency VEDS vouchers generally have a short validity window (often 28 days) to ensure immediate treatment of acute problems. General VGDS vouchers are typically valid for three to six months. Please contact us as soon as you receive your voucher so we can schedule and complete your treatment before expiration.
