Affordable Dentist in Oak Park: Every Way to Pay Less in 2026

"Most people pay more for dental care than they need to, usually because they do not know which scheme they qualify for. Here is every option we see used in Oak Park, and who each one is for."

Start here

Plenty of people put off the dentist because they assume it will cost a fortune. Sometimes it does. Often it does not need to, because there is a scheme, a fund or a payment arrangement they have never heard of.

Work down this list. Most families in Oak Park, Glenroy and Pascoe Vale qualify for at least one of these.

1. Children: the Child Dental Benefits Schedule

If your family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or another eligible Centrelink payment, your children aged 0 to 17 may be covered by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). It pays for check-ups, cleans, X-rays, fillings and extractions up to a capped amount over two calendar years.

We bulk bill all eligible CDBS treatment. That means no gap and nothing to pay at the desk. Reception can check your child's remaining balance over the phone. Details are on our CDBS page.

2. Concession card holders: VGDS and VEDS vouchers

If you hold a Pension Concession Card or a Health Care Card, you can register with a public dental clinic. When public waiting lists are long, they may issue a Victorian General Dental Scheme (VGDS) voucher for routine care, or a Victorian Emergency Dental Scheme (VEDS) voucher for urgent pain.

You can bring that voucher to a private clinic like ours. A small government co-payment may apply unless you are exempt. Our VGDS guide walks through the steps.

3. Veterans: DVA cards

DVA Gold Card holders, and White Card holders with an approved dental condition, can have eligible treatment billed straight to the Department of Veterans' Affairs. Some higher-cost work such as crowns and bridges needs DVA approval first, and we handle that paperwork. See our DVA dental page.

4. Private health extras

If you have extras cover, check two things before you book.

The first is your annual limit for general dental. Many people leave it unused every year, and it resets.

The second is waiting periods. Check-ups and cleans usually have short waits. Crowns, bridges and root canals often sit under major dental with a longer wait, commonly 12 months.

We claim on the spot through HICAPS, so you only pay the gap.

5. Payment plans

For bigger treatment, such as crowns, bridges or implants, ask about splitting the cost over time. We would rather you get the tooth fixed properly in instalments than patch it and come back with a bigger problem. Any plan comes with the full total in writing before you start.

6. The cheapest dental work is the work you avoid

This sounds like a lecture. It is also just maths.

A small filling at our practice costs $150 to $380. Leave that cavity for a year or two and it can reach the nerve, at which point you are looking at root canal treatment at $495 to $1,700, often followed by a crown. A check-up and clean once a year is how you stay on the cheap side of that line.

Our full fee list is on the pricing page. No hidden extras.

Which one applies to you?

If you are not sure, call reception on (03) 9306 5432. Tell us whether you have a concession card, a DVA card, children at home or private health cover, and we will tell you what you are likely to pay before you book.
